Franck Haise said yesterday’s after OGC Nice’s fifth consecutive defeat in this season’s UEFA Europa League, that he offered to leave the club in the wake of last weekend’s 5-1 defeat to Olympique de Marseille. Speaking to L’ÉquipeNice’s president, Fabrice Bocquet, has addressed those remarks.

Haise said that he offered to be the “shock to the system” to get the club back on track. In short, he offered to leave, without resigning. It would have meant that Le Gym would have had to pay compensation for the former RC Lens manager to leave, which would have been considerable given that he extended his contract until 2029 earlier this season.

Bocquet was, naturally, already aware of the ultimatum, as were the players, as he told L’Équipe. “I was neither shocked nor annoyed,” said Bocquet. “He offered to leave, without resigning, and I said that I wasn’t favourable to this solution. He also spoke on the phone to (sporting director) Florian Maurice, and he was on the same wavelength as me, and then he met with Jean-Claude Blance (CEO INEOS Sport) on Sunday. He was also against it.”

Bocquet added that there was then a meeting held between all four of the aforementioned individuals, during which the topic of turning the situation around was evoked. “There is daily work that needs to be improved, and there will be a winter transfer window that will be able to help us, but it can’t be considered a solution to all of our problems,” said the Nice CEO.
