According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Ian Poveda has been banned from driving for six months after being caught at about 100mph in a 70mph zone.
The former Leeds winger, 26, was a Sunderland player when a police officer saw his black Range Rover on the A184 in South Tyneside at about 8.45am on Sunday 23 February 2025. He previously played for Leeds in the Premier League and made 25 appearances across four seasons.
Poveda did not attend North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court. Prosecutor Brian Payne said the officer saw the vehicle accelerate away on the A184 dual carriageway, signalled it to stop, and Poveda pulled over immediately.
Defence solicitor Janice Hall said his speed was only for a very short period.
The court heard Poveda already had nine points on his licence from three previous speeding offences. Magistrates imposed a further six points, triggering a six-month ban under the totting up procedure.
After admitting the offence, he was fined £800, with a £320 surcharge and £600 in costs.
