Ibrahim Mbaye’s push for first-team minutes at PSG has stalled, with the winger barely used since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations and omitted entirely for the 1-2 defeat to Lyon. Mbaye had hoped to secure a rotation role during the run-in.

According to L'Équipe, the 18-year-old Senegal international with 10 caps, under contract until 2028, has managed only three minutes in the Champions League and 184 in Ligue 1 this year. He made 10 appearances last season and first featured at Le Havre in August 2024.

Luis Enrique has framed his selection as purely sporting, stressing that competition is decisive and that players must make the most of every minute at the Parc des Princes or away. He said he has no regrets over choices and wants more from everyone.

Internally, in February and March, the view was that he had not truly returned from the AFCON, so his impact and involvement were seen as lacking. PSG cited a 20-man matchday limit and fierce competition in his position.

Those around the first team describe Mbaye as well brought up, with no off-field lapses, unlike one or two other youngsters who have been corrected by senior players such as Vitinha and Ousmane Dembélé. He believes his training commitment matches previous levels.

His entourage declined to comment, and confusion remains over his status. Concrete interest from Manchester City and Aston Villa has been noted, though inside the club that is not seen as a factor. His situation will be addressed from June, with many at the academy watching how it is handled.
