Ibrahima Ba underwent, and passed, a medical on Tuesday ahead of a move to Sporting Portugal, days after his Strasbourg transfer collapsed.

Record writes that the 21-year-old centre-back is close to joining Sporting CP. His Strasbourg move fell apart amid a late salary renegotiation and a medical some Alsatian sources judged unsuccessful.

Tuesday’s tests are not understood to have flagged a major knee issue. He sustained an injury at the end of last season, was monitored by Famalicao during his holiday in Senegal, and two MRIs on his return to Europe reportedly showed nothing. He also featured in a friendly against Famalicao’s under-23s.

If Sporting finalise the deal, Famalicao would receive 20 million euros plus a sell-on percentage. An announcement is expected on Wednesday evening.

Ba, a graduate of AJEL Rufisque, is in line to succeed Ousmane Diomandé, with the Ivorian’s move to Nottingham edging closer.
