So many Rangers fans wonder why youth players Lyall Cameron and Findlay Curtis are just not breaching the first team, that Ibrox Noise decided to instigate why.
And guess what: we have our answer.
Before we go into that, few fans have failed to be impressed by both players, citing energy, flair and hunger.
So they’ve wondered why neither of them feature much in the team except as subs.
Data.
Yes, thanks to Creag Robertson (long departed now) Rangers heavily rely on forensic data as a tool for guidance.
Danny Rohl himself admitted that using a data-approach led to the appointment of set-piece specialist Scott Fry from League One.
So that is definitely the way Rangers are going.
And when one looks at the data for both Cameron and Curtis, it’s poor.
These are among the lowest-ranked players at the club, when it comes to performance metrics.
For example, among the 26 senior players actually ratable at the club, the worst-scoring is Nedim Bajrami. He manages just 5.98/10. He has had just 6 sub appearances and not impressed enough in any.
But we then come to Cameron and Curtis. Sadly Cameron is the worst-rated player to start at least one match at just 6.13, while Curtis is bang next to him at 6.37 although he hasn’t started any.
Under the new model Rangers are operating under, on a data level (comprised of passing, tackles, and all sorts of performance metrics) these players are extremely poor.
As bottom-ranked players this is why they don’t make more of a foothold in the starting XI.
Whether you agree with Danny Rohl’s data-approach is up to you, but it’s why neither of these two lads, Lyall Cameron and Findlay Curtis, are being heavily used.
Bojan Miovski also scores lowly here, and he too barely features.
And that’s about as much as we can say.
