Everton pulled off a genuine feat by clinching victory at Old Trafford on Monday night (1-0), despite playing more than an hour with a man down after the stunning dismissal of Idrissa Gueye, who was sent off for slapping... his own teammate Michael Keane. It was a rare, almost surreal scene, yet it didn’t rattle David Moyes in the slightest. On the contrary, the Scottish manager chose to downplay the incident, instead highlighting his squad’s fighting spirit.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Moyes first admitted his disappointment with the decision:

"I thought the referee could have taken a little more time to think it over. I was told that if you slap your own player, you could get into trouble."

But the manager then offered an even more surprising, almost complimentary, take on the episode:

"I like it when my players fight among themselves if someone hasn’t done what’s needed. If you want grit and resilience to get a result, you want someone to react."
