We all know that theRangers supporters like to fabricate stories in a bid to appease their own peculiarly warped narrative, and the events of Sunday afternoon have highlighted this point yet again.

The Ibrox supporters still smarting from watching their side fail to beat Falkirk at home, decided to do what they do best, and that is to deflect from their own side’s considerable failings and blame someone else instead.

That of course would be the match officials, but not those on duty at Ibrox, rather it was the officials from the game taking place earlier in the afternoon at Easter Road between Hibs and Celtic.

The Bears you see have been bemoaning the decision to only caution Celtic’s right-back Colby Donovan for a first half challenge, a challenge they deemed worthy of a straight red.

Side stepping the fact it was never a red card offence, the Bears sure do have selective memories as just a few weeks ago they were adamant that an even worse challenge by Derek Cornelius on Celtic striker Johnny Kenny in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final, only merited the yellow card it received at the time.

Referee chief Willie Collum later argued it was indeed the correct on field decision (ironically so as we’ve seen Collum send players off for much less during his time as a referee) so I’d now expect him to back the decision to caution Donovan.

So are they now saying that they should have been reduced to nine men in a game they cried conspiracy over Auston Trusty’s supposed assault on Jack Butland? An incident they are adamant that was the sole reason lost they lost the game. Trusty tapped Butland on the head with his boot and was booked by referee Nick Walsh, who was also in charge of the Hibs v Celtic match on Sunday afternoon.

At Easter Road on Sunday Arne Engels took a Hibs boot in the head delivered with force enough to knock him out but McGrath too was only a caution. If that merits a yellow card then Trusty offence certainly deserved no more.

From Nick Walsh’s point of view he deemed both types of offences in both matches worthy of yellow cards. We know that Head of Referees Willie Collum has backed him on the first two at Hampden and he is very like to do the same thing in the next VAR Review show.

If theRangers fans reckon Donovan deserved to walk on Sunday at Easter Road then surely they must be in wholehearted agreement that Cornelius deserved the same punishment?
