Manchester United submitted their opening offer for Bryan Mbeumo last night in a package worth £55 million.
As per the ever-reliable David Ornstein, United’s initial proposal is an upfront fee of £45m plus £10m in add-ons, which is said to be ‘some way below’ the sum Brentford are willing to accept.
The Bees have taken heed of the fact United activated Matheus Cunha’s £62.5m release clause and view their talisman in the same bracket, hence their costly demands.

Mbeumo is contracted to the West London outfit until 2026, although the club do have the option of extending his stay by a further 12 months, giving them leverage in their negotiations.
That being said, it’s been reported that Brentford are unimpressed with how the saga has played out, with the player’s desire to join United becoming public knowledge on Sunday evening — essentially ‘backing them into a corner’ to grant him his wishes.
The 25-year-old gave priority to the Red Devils over the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, despite all four providing him the opportunity to play Champions League football for the first time.
2024/2025 saw Mbeumo hit new heights with a career-best campaign; he broke the 20-goal barrier on the final day against Wolverhampton Wanderers whilst also contributing eight assists throughout the term.
His scintillating efforts meant that Ivan Toney’s departure to Saudi Arabia had little to no impact on Brentford’s attacking threat, with Mbeumo and Yoanne Wissa combining to form a formidable partnership for Thomas Frank.
When discussing the potential transfer, Ian Wright discussed how the Cameroonian could reach ‘another level’ at Old Trafford.
“When you saw it, like obviously Ivan Toney took all the plaudits at Brentford, but when you watched him then and watched that, you’re looking at it now and it’s more consistent, and you think, yeah,” said the Arsenal and England legend on the Wrighty’s House podcast.
“The only thing I’m surprised about with him is that he’s only 26. You know something, if he goes to United I think that he’s somebody that, if he gets in the moments that he’s had for Brentford, for United, he will then realise where he is. Because he goes to another level with the attention from United.”
