AI decides what Cardiff City would be worth if owner, Vincent Tan, decided to sell the club today
The last 12 months for Cardiff City have been a whirlwind as the club saw themselves finish rock bottom of the Championship and getrelegateddown to League One, where they will be searching for an immediate return to the second year.
Among the sub-par performances on the pitch, work behind the scenes in the way of financial pressures due to relegation, as well as recent takeover bids has led the estimated value of Cardiff City to fall, according to Dan Plumley via Football Insider.
With Cardiff looking to get back on their feet after a season of turmoil last year, we asked AI how much the club would be worth if owner, Vincent Tan, decided to sell the club today.
After a bitterly disappointing Championship season in the 2024/25 campaign, it was reported via Football Insider that the Welsh club's value had dropped from £50m-£60m to somewhere in the region of £40m.
Plumley said, "£50-60m would seem a reasonable valuation as a Championship club. Of course, relegation impacts that value and the difference between League One and the Championship in revenue terms tends to be about £7-10m, give or take, with TV money drop off and also a bit of commercial drop off and maybe attendance reduction."
With it being reported via The Times, that Cardiff-born Gareth Bale, alongside an American consortium, placed a £40m bid to takeover his hometown club, Malasyian owner, Tan, rejected the proposal, believing that the offer was 'insufficient' due to him investing over £200m in the club.
Taking into account the aforementioned factors, AI's realistic market value sits at a range which reflects the valuation of a sale-ready League One club, but could be quickly subject to change dependent on their league finish this campaign.
With Tan thought to have little interest in selling the club, it would take a substantial offer for the Malasyian to cash in. However, despite ongoings off the pitch being up in the air, the Bluebirds have an array of talented individuals and are tipped as strong promotion candidates, which could once again see the financial estimates rise.
AI has decided that a fair market value for Cardiff City at this current time would be around the £35m-£40m mark, with the club already having a concrete investor interest in Bale at £40m.
With the club seeming to be a strong outfit on the pitch and an instant return to Championship football seeming to be on a lot of fans' lips, AI has predicted that a best-case scenario valuation of Cardiff would be the upper bound to £50m-£60m if they were to turn their promotion hopes into a reality.
With Tan reportedly not being interested in passing on ownership on the Welsh side, AI predicts that any sale of the club would be as much about Tan's valuation and financial expectations as opposed to objective financial metrics.
