Thomas Frank says he still feels the backing of the Tottenham board amid increasing uncertainty around his future at the club.
Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to struggling West Ham has left them 14th in the Premier League table after 22 games played, with Frank winning just one of his last eight matches in all competitions.
But his side have a chance to strengthen their push for automatic qualification into the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday when they host Borussia Dortmund.
And Frank says he is determined to turn things around at Tottenham.
“I’ve been feeling the trust along the way,” Frank said. “I’ve said that at every press meeting that there’s backing and support.
“I had lunch with Nick (Beucher) and Vinai (Venkatesham) and Johan (Lange) today, so all good. I know it’s part of the, how can you say, the media circus and the only focus I have is to do everything I can for us to win tomorrow against Dortmund.”
Asked what that conversation was like, Frank responded: “I haven’t heard any situation like that in football where you say, hey mate, if you win tomorrow, no problem. If you lose tomorrow, no problem.
“We had a good conversation about life and football, the future of the club, everything normal like you do. Of course, there’s a little bit stormy weather out there. I just think it’s an extremely good sign, because normally people are running away if there’s bad news or bad weather coming.”
Spurs fans booed at the final whistle following the defeat to West Ham but Frank insists he can win them back over.
“I think, as I say many times, I’ll say it again, as long as we win football matches and make sure we do that, win enough of them, then everyone will support us,” he said.
“I think if your back is against the wall, you fight. And that’s what I do. I’m energetic, I fight.
“And again, it’s not about me. We need to win football matches and we need to win football matches together, and that’s what it’s all about.
“We planned well. We are ready, we are focused for the game tomorrow and the players look good.
“Of course, I think the fans are crucial. Of course, we don’t see any club performing well without the fans supporting and helping and doing everything they can.
“It’s fair that it’s not been smooth and it’s not been as fluid as we want it to be and a little bit too much up and down. And then, unfortunately, it’s a result business and a lot of emotions in this as well.
“But I think there’s a lot of signs that it is going the right way. And then, of course, when it’s a little bit tricky to play every third or fourth day, that makes it more difficult.
“But we still need to find a way to get over the line and I think we are much closer than we think and we just need to keep going.”
