Ignacio Boero elected as Newell’s new president after record turnout

Cristian D’Amico and Juan Cuneo (Julián González) are fighting for second place, and Guillermo Muñoz was fourth. Initial reports indicate that Anselmi will not be the coach of Lepra and that the Orsi-Gómez duo is leading the race.

From this Sunday, December 14, the institutional direction of Newell’s changes. In a historic election due to the number of voters, Ignacio Boero was elected as the new rojinegro president: “We have a 15-point advantage,” they announced.

The number of voters is a record, with 10,846 members who came to the club to make their decision count for the club's future. This represents just under 40% of the registry, but it is the highest number in the club's history.

According to all parties involved, by around 8 PM, the trend was irreversible and Unen was leading by a margin of over 40%. The second place was more contested between D’Amico and Cuneo (Julián González).

A Historic Election

By 1 PM this Sunday, all four candidates had already cast their votes, as well as the mayor of Rosario, Pablo Javkin.

To the list of rojinegro figures who had voted by early afternoon, we must also add the names of Roberto Sensini and Claudio Vivas, who will coordinate football if Boero or D’Amico win, respectively, and Maxi Rodríguez.

With some threatening clouds and sun at times, around 2:30 PM, the crowded line of members stretched from the covered stadium to almost the popular area of the Hippodrome.

After four years of leadership by Ignacio Astore, the club will take a new direction because none of the factions fully represent the continuity of the current government. Despite the campaign jabs about some connections among the list members, the reality is that each of the presenting factions comes with criticisms of the club's current institutional and sports situation.
