Sunderland are still working on a deal for Marseille winger Igor Paixao, with no agreement yet on price. L’Equipe reports that the Ligue 1 club are open to further departures before the window closes, and Paixao is among those who could leave.

The same outlet says Sunderland’s offers have not matched Marseille’s valuation, while ESPN suggests the fee sought could be around £32.6 million.

The report adds that Marseille are canvassing other suitors to strengthen their position, with interest said to exist in England and the Middle East. Sunderland are currently viewed as being in pole position for the Brazilian.

Elsewhere, Preston North End are set to make a fresh bid for midfielder Alan Browne, according to reports. The 31-year-old, who joined from Preston two summers ago, is on the fringes under Regis Le Bris, and any return could hinge on finances.

In defence, Sunderland are credited with interest in FC Lorient centre-back Nathaniel Adjei. Africa Soccer reports that the Black Cats are monitoring the 24-year-old Ghanaian, who joined Lorient on a permanent deal from Hammarby in July 2024.
