Igor Tudor was defiant after Juventus’s 1-0 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid, insisting the Bianconeri deserved at least a draw on the night.
While Jude Bellingham’s solitary goal sealed the result, the Croatian coach focused on the character and effort shown by his players in the most intimidating arena in Europe, refusing to view the performance as a total failure.
Speaking after the match to Prime Video, Tudor channeled his frustration into a clear statement that the team’s work rate warranted an outcome less harsh than a loss.
He said, via TMW: “I carry the regret of not having brought home a point, because we deserved at least to score a goal.”
“The lads are disappointed, there was a good approach and the desire to go, then it was right to suffer. A shame not to have put a ball in.”
The coach acknowledged the gap in quality and experience, suggesting that high-level competition demands both relentless effort and precision.
“Surely we lacked a bit of everything, the desire was there but when you run so much you also lack a bit of clarity and the habit of playing at certain levels. We know our limits but I am happy with the performance, even if there is disappointment because no one likes to leave defeated.”
Tudor then turned his attention to a crucial internal issue: leadership. With the squad in transition, he is calling for every player to step up, recognizing that the demands of the famous black and white jersey are immense.
“The leaders must be everyone, from that point of view we are a little below what I would like and we must grow because the Juve shirt weighs heavily. Many new players have arrived and we are missing a few champions who are usually found.”
“It’s an important thing, since I’ve been here we’ve rarely messed up the approach. Then we have strengths and weaknesses, trust must be given because the path is the right one. Comparisons with the past do not help, but must be accepted.”
Finally, addressing the winning goal, Tudor acknowledged the opposition’s quality but also hinted at misfortune:
“There is individual skill, because he managed to shoot between three and also a bit of luck. If no one made mistakes, all games would end without goals.”
