Iker Muniain has left Club Deportivo Derio to join Salamanca CF UDS, who compete in the Segunda Federación.
According to El Correo, the former Athletic player will sign a one-year contract.
He took charge of Derio in June last year, starting his coaching career just a week after ending his playing spell in Argentina with San Lorenzo de Almagro. In a farewell posted on his social channels, he said he departs with a full heart and that this season has been a gift.
Muniain expressed gratitude to everyone at the club and to supporters who backed the team throughout, including those following from Argentina.
He praised Derio’s identity, highlighting the people behind it, their ambition and the work ethic felt at Ibaiondo, and thanked his players for their enthusiasm and courage from day one.
Closing his first chapter in management, he added that he is satisfied with his decision and excited about what comes next, framing it as a see-you-soon rather than a goodbye.
