Ilia Gruev has discussed Leeds United's away struggles as their road form continues to lag behind results at Elland Road.

The midfielder started the draw with Liverpool, replacing Ao Tanaka, and Daniel Farke must now decide whether to retain him for the trip to Brentford. Leeds have not won in London since Raphinha struck a late winner at Brentford in May 2022.

"To be honest, it's a difference if you play at home or away. You can feel the energy of Elland Road. It's really, really tough to play for away teams at Elland Road," he told BBC Radio Leeds.

"Sometimes also in the process, sometimes you will have these days, and sometimes you will go then to the Etihad, and things will happen like they happened. But you have to continue, and you have to keep going."

Leeds have collected just three points away from home this season, their only win coming at Wolves. They remain on pace for their lowest Premier League away total, with the previous worst being seven points in 1993/94 and nine in 2022/23, when they were relegated after a heavy defeat at Brentford. Howard Wilkinson’s side avoided the drop in 1994 with 44 home points in a 42-game season, and on current evidence Farke may need something similar.
