Illan Meslier is set to join Arsenal as a free agent after leaving Leeds United, according to The Athletic.
Meslier’s arrival at Arsenal is pending a club medical, and he will hope to provide quality cover and competition for David Raya.
The former France youth international moved to Leeds on an initial loan from Lorient in 2019.
Meslier helped the Whites win promotion to the Premier League from the Championship at the end of his debut season.
He was first-choice in the three seasons they spent in the top-flight under Marcelo Bielsa and brings plenty of experience to the table.
Meslier remained in goal for the 2023-24 campaign but lost his place in 2024-25 under manager Daniel Farke due to poor form.
The Frenchman could be Arsenal’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
His signing should result in England under-21 goalkeeper Tommy Setford being loaned out.
The 20-year-old has made only two senior appearances for Arsenal, and the club want him to continue his development elsewhere.
Kepa Arrizabalaga could also look to move on, having largely played second fiddle to Raya since joining from Chelsea last summer.
The 31-year-old Spaniard has attracted interest from Italy and Spain and can reportedly leave if a club meets his £5 million release clause.
Meslier could end up becoming the Gunners’ second-choice goalie, and he will hope to impress whenever the opportunity arises.
