Thierry Henry has named his provisional Olympic squad for the forthcoming Paris Olympic games, notably calling up young Paris Saint-Germain starlets  Warren Zaire-Emery (17) and Bradley Barcola (21) who have also been called into Didier Deschamps’ EURO 2024 squad.

Thierry Henry speaks of Zaire-Emery and Barcola’s potential involvement in two summer tournaments

Quizzed on the potential for fatigue and burnout of two young players with a hectic summer schedule, Henry was keen to stress that this was only the provisional 25-man squad:

“This isn’t yet the definitive list. There will have to be discussions. Warren is a separate case, he is also currently doing his A levels. We will try to build the best possible team. We will have to have some discussions, because we’re talking about the health of a player. But from another angle, when we analyse the situation, with a group of 18 players and 4 reserves to bring together, to play matches in the summer heat, we will add players in each category. I am aware of the situations with Warren and “Barco” and others too. We are giving ourselves the chance of having the best team possible.”

Zaire-Emery and Barcola both featured heavily in another successful season for champions Paris Saint-Germain, and are expected to play a part in France’s Euro 2024 campaign, which begins on June 17th against Ralf Rangnick’s Austria and includes other group stage matches against the Netherlands (June 21st) and Poland (June 25th).
