‘I’m Betting On’ – Star Backs Everton Wanted Player Not To Move | OneFootball

Juventus defender Gleison Bremer has backed Everton target Douglas Luiz to stay with the Turin outfit and prove himself this season.

The Old Lady paid a hefty fee in the region of €50m to Aston Villa to sign Luiz in 2024, but he failed to establish himself in Turin.

Last summer, Luiz joined Nottingham Forest on loan from Juventus and, failing to make his mark at the City Ground, returned to Aston Villa on loan in the winter window with the club having the option to make it permanent.

The Brazilian featured 13 times for Villa in the Premier League but Unai Emery’s side decided that Juventus’ €25m price tag for the player was too high and opted against triggering a permanent deal.

The jury has been out on whether Juventus will keep him this summer, with split opinions at the club, but the player is keen to stay.

Everton made a move to sign Luiz earlier this week, however the Brazilian rejected a move to the Hill Dickinson.

David Moyes could yet go back for Luiz, who might be persuaded to go if he feels he has no future at Juventus, but Bremer does not believe that will be the case.

“As [coach Luciano] Spalletti said, we are still a bit far from that goal, but we are laying important building blocks for the future”, Bremer was quoted as saying by Italian outlet Tutto Juve.

“Kolo Muani, Alajbegovic… And I’m betting on my friend Douglas Luiz, who has plenty of quality and will prove it.”

Juventus do need to bring in cash this summer to help support their spending after missing out on a Champions League spot.

Selling Luiz will become an attractive proposition if he does not have an impact at the start of the new Serie A season under Spalletti.

Everton remain in the market to strengthen a squad that missed out on Europe last season.
