Olympique de Marseille defender Nayef Aguerd (28) has reassured fans after being assaulted at Marseille-Provence Airport on Monday morning.

According to reports from La Provence and BFM Marseille-Provence, a man attempted to slap the Moroccan international while he was waiting to board his flight to join the Morocco national team ahead of the October international break. The situation was swiftly resolved after airport security and police intervention, with the incident now in the hands of local authorities.“I want to reassure everyone following the reports that have circulated. I was indeed attacked at Marignane Airport while waiting for my flight to join the Moroccan national team,” Aguerd said in a post made on Instagream. “Fortunately, it was more fear than harm, and the situation was quickly handled by security personnel and the police.”“Everything is now under control. I’m fine, and I’m focused on what matters most to me — playing for OM and representing my country with pride. Thank you for all your messages of support. Let’s always stay calm and respectful. Life goes on.”The 52-cap international has been one of OM’s standout performers since joining from West Ham United this summer, and scored in Marseille’s 1-0 win two weeks ago. He is set to return to Provence after representing Morocco in their upcoming fixtures — a friendly against Bahrain (October 9) and a World Cup qualifier against Congo (October 14).GFFN | George Boxall
