Peter Grant is correct and it’s great to see someone from the Celtic side isn’t playing to the tune of the SMSM…

Former Celtic favourite Peter Grant had his say in the club’s recent downturn in fortunes, and for me he got it absolutely nailed it.

Indeed if only other so called high profile Celtic minded figures in the world of football had the courage to state something similar, instead of playing to the tune of the hacks in the Scottish mainstream media.

Look, we deserve all the criticism we receive in the wake of our poor recent form, but in the cold light of day, we are still in a very good position in challenging for the title, indeed we are actually in the driving seat.

Unfortunately, we’ve seen a high percentage of ex-Hoops figures sticking the boot into the club in a time of temporary crisis.

Peter Grant however was passionate in his defence of the club stating that we should “not be kidded” in regard to everyone suggesting that the Rangers are now favourites for the title after just seven games into the campaign.

Grant admitted that the Hoops were underperforming:  “But I’m not like everybody else thinking the league’s over. That’s the way people are talking, as if Rangers have won the championship already. So let’s not be kidded.

“You’d have thought they were handing the trophy out to the weekend. There’s a long time to go. And Celtic have to perform. There’s no doubt of that,” Peter Grant told Daily Record.

And Grant outlined the “bottom line” that Celtic still remain two points clear of Rangers in the league so far this season.

He added: ”Celtic are a point better off than last year and two points clear at the top of the league. And nobody mentions it, really.

“Everybody’s mentioned how great Rangers have done. They’re still two points behind Celtic. That’s the bottom line.

“I look at it from both sides, because obviously I look at it as a supporter, and I understand the frustrations of everything else that goes around it.

“I also look at it from a management side, where you’ve got to have that positivity. All the criticism, all the tough times it’s been. But, you’re still two points clear of the league.”

Peter Grant is absolutely spot on. No prizes are handed out seven games into the campaign, and Celtic are deservedly top of the table.

As the old saying goes, form is temporary, class is permanent. Some other ex-Celts in the media should take note.
