Chelsea want to sell midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, and there’s an expectation he’ll leave permanently according to Matt Law.

Ugochukwu joined from French side Rennes for £23.2m in the summer of 2023, but spent last season on loan at Southampton, who finished bottom of the league and got relegated.

The Frenchman made 31 appearances, and put in some impressive performances for the Saints, showing he can cut it at Premier League level.

Ugochukwu expected to be sold this summer

Chelsea have been busy this summer and have made four signings in Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro, and Jorrel Hato.

The Blues are also in negotiations with RB Leipzig for Xavi Simons, and want to add the 22-year-old to their squad.

However, Chelsea also need to sort out the future of a number of players, with Ugochukwu falling into that category.

The 21-year-old made 15 appearances for Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino in the 2023/2024 season, and the Blues believe there will be plenty of interest in the midfielder.

Valencia and Hamburg are said to have made enquiries for Ugochukwu, but as of yet no official offers have been received, but Law has provided an update.

“I’m told there is an expectation he will leave permanently,” he told The London Is Blue Podcast.

“They expect to sell him rather than loan him.”

Chelsea sales gathering pace

Things are gathering pace in regards to outgoings and Chelsea have now sold six players on a permanent basis in Armando Broja, Noni Madueke, Joao Felix, Djordje Petrovic, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Ishe Samuels-Smith.

There’s still plenty of work to do and the Blues are looking to offload Christopher Nkunku next, who is attracting interest from Inter Milan.

The two biggest issues Chelsea face are likely to be moving on Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling due to their wages, but there are at least clubs interested in Sterling, but Chilwell is struggling attracting interest at this point.
