FC Barcelona were able to get another win in La Liga as they faced Real Betis in their last home game of the season. The Catalans won 3-1 in this game, with a brace from Raphinha and another goal from Joao Cancelo.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Hansi Flick talked to the press after the game, and one of the topics he talked about was the perfect home record his team kept during this league season, despite having played in three different stadiums.
In this regard, the German coach said:
“I’m very happy and proud of what the team has achieved. It’s incredible to win 19 home matches. It has been a great season for us, a fantastic performance. It has a lot to do with the connection with the fans and the atmosphere at Camp Nou, which always gives us something extra.”
The Barcelona coach was clear that his team deserved to win this game:
“We struggled a bit in the second half. Betis are a fantastic team, but I think we deserved to win because we wanted to win and defended very well.”
This match also served as a farewell for Robert Lewandowski, and Flick was full of praise for the Pole in this presser:
“I’ve worked with Robert for many years; he is a friend, and it could have been a perfect night if he had scored. He came close, but it was the perfect farewell, very emotional — we will never forget it. He has a magical connection with the people here. He is a fantastic person and a world-class player.
I can only say thank you and thank you again. Of course, we will miss him. He gave us goals and titles, he is a good person, but players leaving is part of football.”
The German coach also opened up on his desired profile of a striker to replace the Polish veteran:
“It’s not easy to replace Robert. He has been the best number 9 in the world for 15 years. We need a striker connected with the team, but one who also scores goals. We are clear about what we want, and I’m sure we will have a fantastic team.”
The Blaugrana trainer was not very certain about the future of Joao Cancelo:
“Everyone has seen what Cancelo has given us. I value him highly, but it’s not easy, and Deco has to manage it. We have to wait, but he is a fantastic player.”
While praising Raphinha, Flick also made it clear that his team knew how to remain competitive even without him available:
“He is very important for us. At this level, he is incredible. I’m very happy about his return. We missed him when he was unavailable, but the team handled it well, and it was great to win the league despite the injuries. The team knew how to improve.”
The German coach once again reiterated his love for Barcelona:
“Here, they give you the confidence you need. The atmosphere with the players and the people is fantastic. It is one of the best clubs in the world. People are very kind when I walk in the street; it comes from the heart. Everyone likes the city, but also the club, which always tries to give you the best.”
The Barcelona tactician did not really agree with the referee about the penalty given to Real Betis:
“I don’t know what I told the referee. In my opinion, it’s not a penalty. We saw it on the iPad, but it can be given.”
For now, Flick was looking forward to the last game of the season:
“We still have one more match against Valencia, and we want to win it. And I’ll be happy when the holidays arrive afterward.”
Hopefully, Hansi Flick will be able to lead his Barcelona side to a win in this last game as well to end the season on a positive note.
