FC Barcelona had a very difficult night in Czechia, where they took on Slavia Praha in a Champions League game they desperately needed to win. The Catalan club got the job done with a 4-2 victory, thanks to a brace from Fermin Lopez and goals from Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski.
One player who had a mixed bag was Lewandowski. Coming into the game having failed to score in the Champions League for nine months, the Pole first found himself on the wrong scoresheet with an own goal.
However, in the second half, he produced a well-taken finish that balanced out his performance. After the game, he spoke to the media, as quoted by SPORT.
Firstly, he analysed the game:
“In the first half, we had problems; we conceded two goals, but in the second half, we played much better, had more control, and also improved offensively. It wasn’t easy; we needed time to adapt to the cold. But in the end, it’s three points, and we’re happy. It’s my first goal, and now it might be easier for me. I’m very happy. If we improve a few things, we can be more dangerous and have more offensive options.”
Robert Lewandowski also spoke about how the cold affected the team. He said:
“It’s not easy to play in this temperature. Playing at 2 degrees is one thing; -7 is another. The most important thing is the victory and that we have one more game to win to qualify among the top eight.”
Finally, he addressed what the team needs to do to finish in the top eight. He said:
“We’ve talked about it in the locker room. We are 8 teams with 13 points. The most important thing for us will be to try to win the last match against Copenhagen. If we play well, we’ll have a good chance to advance directly to the next round of the Champions League.”
Lewandowski completed 90 minutes for one of the few times this season and, with Ferran Torres expected to be out for ten days, the veteran striker is likely to see more minutes in the coming weeks. It remains to be seen how he performs and whether he can continue to score for Hansi Flick’s team.
