The return of FC Barcelona to the Spotify Camp Nou is getting closer. The Catalans are about to obtain the Certificate of Completion of Works, which must then be presented to the Barcelona City Council.
From there, the council will need to inspect the stadium and decide whether to grant Barcelona the First Occupancy Licence. However, preparations for announcing the definitive return may already be underway.
On Friday, a rather unusual image surfaced on social media. A photograph of president Joan Laporta lying flat on his back in the centre circle of the Spotify Camp Nou pitch began circulating on the internet in recent hours.
Alongside him were several photographers and a member of the club’s social media team, suggesting that the scene may be part of a campaign to communicate the team’s return home once authorisation is granted for the opening of phase 1A of the project.
This comes after Barcelona vice president Rafa Yuste confirmed on Thursday that the club would shortly issue a statement with regard to the Spotify Camp Nou return.
Laporta was accompanied by several board members, including Elena Fort, institutional vice-president, as well as Xavi Puig, the director responsible for women’s football.
It should be recalled that Laporta was already one of the protagonists of a failed announcement launched by Barcelona a little over a month ago.
On that occasion, the president fronted a spectacular video announcing that Flick’s team would play the Joan Gamper Trophy against Como at Camp Nou on August 10, but in the end, it was not possible.
In any case, the image of Laporta lying on the grass in his suit highlights the president’s dedication to FC Barcelona, as well as his passion and love for the club.
After decades of delays, he took on the challenge of overseeing the stadium’s remodelling despite the Blaugrana’s difficult financial circumstances.
