Important home test for Aston Villa against Nottingham Forest

Article image:Important home test for Aston Villa against Nottingham Forest

The last home loss for Aston Villa was in the Carabao Cup. That 2-1 defeat was in late October. The first Premier League match of the season at Villa Park resulted in a 2-0 loss to Arsenal. Since then, Unai Emery has gone unbeaten at home.

This feat extends throughout all competitions but is notably true in their EPL encounters. For a side that hasn't done as well as they would have liked in the Prem, it's been the away fixtures that have caused issues for Villa.

Against Nottingham Forest, this is a streak that will need to continue. Nuno Espirito Santo is a tough team to play against. Their counterattacking and clinical finishing make it difficult to feel 100% confident at any point in the match.

Even with majority possession and more chances, Forest finds ways to stay alive and steal results. Especially playing at home, Villa will need to continue to finish their chances as they have been. If the first half sees a lot of opportunities wasted early on, Nottingham grabbing a win in Birmingham only increases in likelihood.

As this past season should show, however, coming into Villa Park and leaving with points is a difficult task. Adding to the fact that Emery appears to have his team clicking throughout the lineup, that only becomes all the more difficult.

Aston Villa streak will stand past this weekend

Most likely, the 14-game unbeaten run continues past Saturday. This has included seven wins and seven draws in Premier League play. Four of the last EPL matches will take place at home, and four will be away fixtures. There are 24 points left to play for.

Nottingham is a good side. Considering how well Aston Villa are playing at the moment, Emery will not only look to remain unbeaten but also grab the outright victory. Forest are playing well at the moment; it's doubtful that it will be enough, however, when they arrive in Birmingham.
