Lincoln City are well-placed for a promotion push in League One this season — and the Imps’ miserly defence provides a rock-solid foundation to build upon.
Michael Skubala’s side climbed to fifth in the table after earning a gritty point at Bradford City last night, their stalemate with the Bantams bringing up a sixth clean sheet in the league.
Factor in Carabao Cup and EFL Trophy fixtures, and Lincoln have now recorded nine shutouts in total this term — more than any other team across The 92 in all domestic competitions.
Although Stevenage (10 goals conceded) currently boast the meanest defence in League One, Skubala’s side have played a couple of games more — and a closer look at the data suggests the Imps are masters at limiting the quality of opposition chances.
Interestingly, only three teams have faced more shots than Lincoln in League One this season, yet the average xG per shot they’ve allowed stands at just 0.09 — the lowest figure in the division.
A tricky FA Cup tie at Salford lies in store this coming weekend for the Imps, who will again be eager to keep things tight in their First Round clash at the Peninsula Stadium.
