In Brasileirão U17 quarter-finals, Fluminense top three state leagues | OneFootball

Fluminense’s youth teams are currently at the top of the competitions they are playing in. Qualified for the quarterfinals and sitting in the top four of the Brazilian U-17 Championship, Tricolor lead the Rio de Janeiro U-20 Championship, the Rio Cup U-17, and the Guilherme Embry U-16 Tournament. The teams will defend their lead this weekend at Marcelo Vieira Stadium, in Xerém.

The only unbeaten side with 22 points and a 91.7% success rate, Flu’s U-20 team are chasing their third win in derbies this Saturday (10/03), when they host Vasco at 10 a.m. in the ninth and third-to-last round. The juniors have the highest number of wins and the best attack in the Taça Guanabara. Of the 22 goals scored across their seven victories, six have come from top scorer Keven Samuel.

Propelled into first place after beating Flamengo 3-1 in the head-to-head clash at CT George Helal, coach Fred’s youngsters, who have drawn only once, are on a run of five straight wins. The Fla-Flu also ended another rival’s unbeaten streak, following a 3-0 win over Botafogo in Xerém.

The club’s U-17 team, edged out by Botafogo and Vasco on goal difference (2 to 1), can secure sole possession of first place this Saturday. Coach Felipe Canavan’s side face Petrópolis at 1 p.m., after opening their campaign with a win over hosts Nova Iguaçu. Davi led the top attack by scoring twice in the 3-2 victory.

This Friday (10/02), Tricolor’s U-16 side will take the field against Volta Redonda at 11 a.m. in the sixth round. The only team with a 100% record, coach Daniel Pinheiro’s squad pulled clear after beating Olaria 3-1.

The age group has the best defense in Group B, which was breached again after the opening-round 2-1 win over Flamengo at Gávea. The Boys from Xerém, with one game in hand, have 12 points.
