‘In five years’… Lamine Yamal reveals his future aspirations in his speech at the Golden Boy gala | OneFootball

Although he started the 2024-25 season in blazing fashion, the last few weeks have not really been great for Lamine Yamal. The FC Barcelona winger had only recently recovered from an ankle issue with which he had to miss three games before he once again suffered another injury in the same area during the game against Leganes, which ended in a defeat for the Blaugranes.

However, amid these physical issues, his talent continues to be recognised at the highest level, and the latest manifestation of this also came right before the game against Leganes, as he was presented with the Golden Boy award.

The official ceremony for this award took place in Turin, Italy last night, and although he did not personally attend the gala, he still participated in it remotely and also gave a speech.

SPORT has highlighted some of the most notable parts of this speech, and one which will particularly delight Barcelona fans was the one where he clearly showed his intent to remain at the Catalan club for years to come. About his objectives while playing for Barcelona, Yamal said:

“I’m very happy; I feel the fans’ affection, and receiving the award in front of them is special. I try to focus only on playing, enjoying, and helping my team. It’s funny that some players are my father’s age, but I concentrate on playing.

In five years, I see myself at Barça, the club of my life, winning every possible title—hopefully the Champions League. And with the national team, I dream of winning the World Cup.”

Similarly, Yamal also talked about the recent injury to his ankle that he suffered against Leganes:

“I took a knock; now the important thing is to recover, and I’m eager to return and help the team.”

This injury is expected to keep Yamal out for 3-4 weeks, and he will miss the crucial upcoming tie against Atletico Madrid. But the more important thing for him is to recover from this issue in the best possible way and help Barcelona in the much more demanding second half of the season.
