A surreal scene unfolded in Germany. During the Bundesliga 2 clash between Preußen Münster and Hertha Berlin, supporters disrupted the match by unplugging the VAR cable. The referee had to make a decision remotely, and a penalty was awarded, which was then converted into a goal.

The encounter between Preußen Münster and Hertha Berlin took an unexpected twist. Following a contentious incident in the penalty area, the referee was heading to the VAR monitor to review the play. But at that exact moment, two masked supporters stormed the pitch and unplugged the VAR cable, plunging the stadium's giant screen into darkness.

A decision made from the control room

With no images available, the VAR official based in Cologne had to make the call remotely, without the ability to show the video on the pitch. The penalty was awarded to Hertha Berlin and promptly converted, leaving the crowd stunned.

The Münster fans didn’t stop there: they even unfurled a banner reading “Pull the plug on VAR,” voicing their discontent. An unforgettable night that will go down in Bundesliga 2 history.
