Legendary former Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta is still going, now playing with Sevilla in La Liga.
He has been speaking during this international break on some of his memories, including those about his old friend and teammate N’Golo Kante.
“He was very commanding in midfield. He could cover every single space in midfield. He was very good with the ball, because he was always trying to pick the right option. And sometimes simple passes, but he was very clever in that way,” Azpilicueta said.
“Defensively, he would go everywhere and recover balls when everybody thought the midfielder or the striker passed him; he was already there. So he was very helpful for the team.”
The pair won a host of trophies in their shared time at Stamford Bridge, each playing a pivotal role in the team under numerous managers. What we would do for a regenerated 28 year old version of each of them right now. Their experience and their leadership by example would add so much to this current group.
Two of the best professionals you could hope for, and beloved by the fans too, we can only pray that a couple of our current first team group go on to have success on the level they did at Chelsea.
The big news from Enzo Maresca in the press conference today was that Cole Palmer is set to miss six more weeks with his ongoing groin injury. That’s devastating news, and we’re all excited and interested to see how the coach puts things together in his absence.
To get more detail on what’s going on with Palmer, we went to Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph, who had plenty of information about Chelsea’s thinking behind the decision to keep him out.
