AC Milan will likely invest in a central defender in the summer mercato, and it seems that they are looking to the English Championship for reinforcements.
The defensive problems at Milan are really alarming, and they have been for some time now. Last season, the side struggled with numbers, and in fairness, quality. This season, it has been more a case of the latter, where the Rossoneri’s options have often fallen below the level needed.
Throughout the season, consistency in the backline has been near impossible to find, and the problems have been in the middle, where at least 15 partnerships of different players have been used.
Since Sergio Conceicao arrived, it seemed that this issue had faded a little, but now that problem has reappeared with Fikayo Tomori being cast aside, and multiple partnerships being used in the past month.
For this reason, investment in a centre back, once again, is expected. However, the choice is not.
Football League World relays information from English journalist Alan Nixon that states that the Diavolo have sent scouts to Lancashire to watch Maxime Esteve play for Burnley, who has previously been considered.
Everton and Crystal Palace are also considering the central defender, and if the Clarets do not return to the top flight, the Italian outfit’s chances at a deal would be massively higher.
