Chelsea have just beaten Liverpool with a late winner from Estevao at Stamford Bridge.

The assist for the goal came from Marc Cucurella, who had had a good game both in attack and defence. The Spaniard found his typical pocket in attack and was picked out by Enzo Fernandez. Without even looking up, the Cucurella delivered the ball to the back post, where Estevao was charging in.

“We deserved this moment. It’s not been an easy week for us, but when you play in the Champions League midweek you have two chances to succeed,” the full back said.

“We built the momentum, the connection with the fans. We started the game in the in the right way and we deserved the win – we’re very happy to get to the international break with three points.”

We thought Liverpool actually started stronger – but the Blues grew steadily into the game, and they scored the opening goal at the perfect time to really shake up the Reds. Arne Slot’s team were able to equalise, but in truth the home team were on top for the majority of the game.

The full back also had some interesting insight on exactly how Chelsea had specifically tried to target Liverpool in the wide areas, knowing that Mo Salah was going to leave space behind him.

“We always try to attack no matter the situation. The way they play, Salah is always ready to attack, so we knew that crosses could be an advantage. We won the game in this way today.

“Estevao deserves this moment. It’s never easy to adapt and he did so well.”
