According to as.com, Iñaki Williams will not join up with Ghana after suffering discomfort against Real Betis at San Mamés on Sunday, following talks between Athletic’s and the national team’s medical staff. He will continue his recovery at Lezama during the international break.
He had been in line for a recall after missing October and November with a muscle injury. Otto Addo had named him among La Liga-based players, alongside Thomas Partey (Villarreal) and Kwasi Sibo (Oviedo), for friendlies against Austria and Germany later this month.
The fixtures are billed as final warm-ups for this summer’s World Cup. Williams hopes to make the tournament in Canada, the United States and Mexico, and to join his brother Nico there, the latter with Spain. The winger recently received a trophy from Óscar de Marcos marking his 500th official appearance for Athletic.
Williams has not featured for the Black Stars since 8 September 2025, when he played 11 minutes against Mali in a World Cup qualifier that Ghana won 1-0.
Ghana visit Austria in Vienna on Friday 27, then face Germany in Stuttgart on Monday 30. Addo has handed first call-ups to Derrick Luckassen of Pafos, Patrick Pfeiffer of Darmstadt 98, Marvin Senaya of Auxerre and Daniel Agyei of Kocaelispor.
