According to El Correo, Iñaki Williams will play his second World Cup for Ghana after being selected by Carlos Queiroz, who has replaced Otto Addo. He will be at the finals in the United States, Mexico and Canada, while his brother Nico, Unai Simón and Aymeric Laporte pursue Spain's second title.
Athletic now count 33 World Cup internationals. They will again send four players, 76 years after Brazil 1950, when Piru Gainza, José Luis López Panizo, Nando González and Telmo Zarra were selected. Zarra scored four goals then.
Alongside Simón, Nico, Julen Guerrero and Rafa Alkorta, Iñaki becomes the fifth Athletic player to contest two World Cups while on the club's books. He turns 32 on 15 June, two days before Ghana open against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto.
Panama are the weakest opponents in a daunting Group L for Ghana. The Black Stars face Wales in a Cardiff friendly on Tuesday at 20.45. They then meet England on 23 June at Gillette Stadium in Boston and Croatia on 27 June at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Ghana aim to reach the knockouts. As the group's theoretical third-best, they will try to be among the eight best third-placed teams, from 12, to make the round of 32. Group L's third will face Group K's winner, with Portugal and Colombia the favourites.
Iñaki has 26 caps and two goals for Ghana. He also has the chance to end a 40-year wait for a World Cup goal by an Athletic player, the last being Andoni Goikoetxea at Mexico 1986.
