Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Real Madrid is now a matter of when, not if, with the Portuguese tactician having already held meetings with the club.

In a recent interaction, he has also confirmed holding talks with the Real Madrid board and it is apparent that he is already preparing for what’s to come.

Mourinho has a huge task of reviving Real Madrid and sorting out the club’s ongoing problems. Among the various issues he has identified, one stands out above the rest.

Mourinho pinpoints the injury crisis

According to Defensa Central, Mourinho has made it clear, based on what he has seen and been told in his meetings with the club, that Real Madrid’s persistent injury problems represent one of the most pressing issues he needs to address.

Mourinho has identified a systemic problem with the squad’s physical conditioning, particularly with the way serious injuries and recurring muscle problems have plagued the squad over the past two seasons.

His proposed solution involves a more structured pre-season training camp with fewer commercial tours and more frequent rotations during the season.

He also wants to schedule rest periods for key players, even if that means sitting them out of less significant league fixtures. It remains to be seen whether or not this will impact the role of Antonio Pintus.

A change in dynamic

Beyond the physical side, Mourinho intends to demand the same level of commitment from every player in the squad, regardless of their status.

After two seasons in which managers have struggled to impose authority on a fractured dressing room, the incoming coach believes the failures of recent years have removed any excuse for resistance.

Florentino Perez believes the Portuguese coach has the unique ability to reunite a divided dressing room around a common vision, something that has proved beyond his last three managers.

Mourinho, for his part, is enthused by the squad at his disposal and believes he can get the best out of them. It is an ambitious challenge, but one he appears ready to embrace.
