One of Liverpool's best wonderkids - arguably their outright best - is expected to make his his debut this season. We cannot wait.

Liverpool are busy snapping up some of the biggest young talents around. The plan, of course, is for them to flood the first-team eventually and that’s something we’re starting to see this season.

Rio Ngumoha has a proper senior role now, of course, while Trey Nyoni is starting to show himself, too. Lewis Koumas is another taking the opportunities afforded to him and who might establish himself before long.

But it doesn’t stop there. Liverpool’s academy boasts some truly brilliant young players and the Reds will be moving them gradually forward into the senior setup.

And that includes arguably the biggest young talent they have.

Josh Abe to step up

The Daily Mail has put out a list of the 16 most promising young players at Premier League clubs right now. One of the more glowing reviews goes to Josh Abe, the next-big-thing in Liverpool's academy.

You've almost certainly heard of Abe at this point. He's had hype around him for a few years now and was heavily linked with a move away in the summer to a rival club. Instead, he renewed his Liverpool deal and is now set for big things at Anfield.

But the most interesting line in there is that Abe's expected senior debut is given a 4/5. As in, he's very likely to be thrust into the senior side at some point this season.

That certainly aligns with what we know. If any player benefits from Liverpool's bizarre decision to not sign a right winger in the summer, it's Abe. He now doesn't have a single natural senior option standing in his way.

In fact, there's every chance that a debut is merely the first step towards firmly establishing himself as a serious option on that side. That might even be the dream scenario right now, potentially removing any need to sign a new player in 2027.

Of course, we don't want to put too much pressure on him and Abe is still very young. It's nearly impossible to know how good he's going to be, or how ready he is.

But we do think we'll have a better idea later this season. The debut is coming - it really is just a matter of when.
