An independent panel ruled on Monday that Brighton should have been awarded a penalty against Arsenal in matchweek 29.

On the day, referee Chris Kavanagh allowed play to continue and VAR Michael Salisbury supported the on-field call. The Premier League Match Centre later wrote on X that the VAR had not identified a clear and obvious error.

In a vote, the panel that reviews key match incidents, KMI, determined Gabriel Martinelli had fouled Mats Wieffer in first-half stoppage time by holding him.

The incident occurred in the Premier League fixture on four March.

Arsenal won 1-0, with Bukayo Saka scoring earlier in the game before the disputed decision.
