Independiente have sacked Gustavo Quinteros after a 4-0 defeat to Atlético Tucumán in Rosario that ended their Copa Argentina run in the last 16.

According to SuperDepor.com, the board acted on Thursday, with Hugo Tocalli to oversee this afternoon's session at Villa Domínico while directors discuss a replacement.

The decision followed hours after Quinteros said publicly he had no intention of resigning and wanted to keep trying to turn around the team's form.

Even so, his post-match remarks did not land well internally. He accepted responsibility for the scoreline, yet again highlighted differences with the hierarchy over the transfer window and reinforcements he had requested that did not arrive.

The board concluded his cycle was over and ended a contract that ran until December 2026.

Tocalli is the club's experienced youth academy coordinator and previously served as interim coach in 2024 following the departure of Carlos Tévez.

Attention now turns to the successor. One faction of the board want to move for Omar De Felippe, intending to offer him the job until December before reviewing the sporting project towards 2027.

De Felippe has a strong bond with Independiente, having taken charge in 2013-14 in the Primera Nacional and guided the club back to the top flight. Another group within the hierarchy are pushing Rubén Darío Insua.
