Iñigo Pérez has been confirmed as Villarreal head coach for three seasons, a move that could shape Sevilla’s goalkeeping rebuild and their push for Diego Conde.
ABC de Sevilla reports that the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán hierarchy are awaiting decisions on Conde, viewed as the leading candidate to replace departing keepers Örjan Nyland and Odysseas Vlachodimos.
The Madrid-born stopper was out of favour under Marcelino García Toral, with no relationship to speak of, so an exit had appeared likely. Pérez will now assess the three goalkeepers on his books, Luiz Júnior, Arnau Tenas and Conde.
Sevilla have tracked Conde for some time. Positive scouting from Víctor Orta’s tenure now sits with José Ignacio Navarro, who leads the sporting department following Antonio Cordón’s exit.
Much will depend on the preferences of Villarreal’s new coach. If Conde remains third choice, Sevilla could accelerate a deal. If he regains prominence, a move would be unlikely.
Marca states that Julen Agirrezabala is the principal fallback, after an injury-disrupted loan at Valencia and with the club declining their option to buy. He returns to San Mamés, and could find minutes in Seville that, in Bilbao, Unai Simón could limit.
Sevilla are also monitoring 21-year-old Ármin Pécsi of Liverpool’s reserves, while promoting Alberto Flores, captain of Sevilla Atlético, is another path under consideration. The coming weeks should clarify the goalkeeping plan.
