Villarreal opened their 2026/27 pre-season on Monday with the first day of medical tests at the Ciudad Deportiva José Manuel Llaneza, the start of three scheduled days.
El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that new head coach Íñigo Pérez attended to welcome his squad. He arrived in early June, roughly a week after last season ended, with several players already on holiday and World Cup call-ups away, so for some this is a first contact.
Monday’s group featured senior figures. Club images showed captain Gerard Moreno alongside Juan Foyth, who suffered a ruptured Achilles in January and is expected to be available in the opening weeks of the campaign.
Alberto Moleiro, Santiago Mouriño and Sergi Cardona were also present.
Goalkeepers Arnau Tenas, Luiz Júnior and Diego Conde checked in together. Loan returnees Carlos Romero and Dani Requena also reported.
Testing continues until Thursday 9 July, when Íñigo Pérez will lead his first training session with those available. Seven World Cup players are absent, and Hugo López and Joselillo Gaitán are away at the Under-19 European Championship.
