According to Le Progres, AS Saint-Étienne travel to Rodez for a decisive penultimate matchday on Saturday, the second of May, at 20:00, hampered by an injury list unprecedented in Ligue 2 this season.

Head coach Philippe Montanier will have to turn to several squad options again. The absentees include Davitashvili, N’Guessan, Tardieu, Jaber, Moueffek, El Jamali, Eymard, Le Cardinal, Lamba and Traoré.

Montanier accepted the situation is a handicap, said the ideal is to have all resources available at the business end, and framed the challenge as part of the path as he seeks, once more, to put the side back on track.

After the Troyes debacle, he highlighted a lack of leadership, and he will not be helped by a leader’s return, as vice-captain Le Cardinal remains unavailable.

The defender suffered a hamstring issue last week, worked individually for most of this week, and is considered too short to come back now.
