RB Leipzig’s 5-0 home win over Hamburger SV was overshadowed by a renewed injury concern for Assan Ouédraogo, who left before half-time with a right shoulder problem.

According to BuLi News, the result temporarily averted their first crisis of the season, but worry set in after the midfielder went down in the 35th minute following an apparently innocuous coming together with Albert Grønbæk.

He received brief treatment, could not continue due to pain in the same shoulder, and was taken to the dressing room. Head coach Martin Demichelis said they must wait for examination results, noted it did not look good, and confirmed it was the same injury.

Ouédraogo had only just returned on Thursday in the defeat to Como after weeks out with a right shoulder capsule injury sustained during Leipzig’s training camp at the start of August. The problem had been treated conservatively.

Now, six weeks on, another setback adds to the misfortune he has endured since joining Leipzig from Schalke in the summer of 2024. Demichelis stressed the player had been ready and that all parties had cleared his return.

With the international break looming, the timing is especially tough. The youngster had hoped to earn a Germany call-up from Jürgen Klopp, who is set to name his first squad this week.
