Mainz midfielder Nadiem Amiri is set to miss several weeks with a heel injury, a setback that further clouds his prospects of making Germany’s World Cup squad.

He sat out the 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend. Bild claims the 29-year-old could be sidelined until the start of April.

Amiri had been a regular under Julian Nagelsmann through 2025, but he missed the November internationals because of adductor pain.

He will also be unavailable for this month’s friendlies against Switzerland and Ghana, adding uncertainty over his selection.

He has nine senior caps for Germany and one goal.
