Pep Guardiola has confirmed Ruben Dias will be missing for up to six weeks after suffering a hamstring injury against Chelsea.

With the Club issuing a statement on Monday evening that Josko Gvardiol will be undergoing surgery on an ankle fracture – also sustained against Chelsea last weekend – it means that, along with John Stones, the Blues are without three key central defenders at a crucial stage of the season.

At his press conference ahead of our home game with Brighton on Wednesday evening, the City boss was asked first for an update on Dias.

He said: “Everybody knows it. I think so. Players are available and others are not.

“[Ruben has injured his] hamstring [and will be out for] between four and six weeks. [Josko] is out for a long time.”

And there was no positive update on the fitness of Stones, with Pep adding: “[He is not] ready for the next games.

“Of course, he’s an important player for us for a long time and he was injured for a long time last season; this season looks the same.

“He’s trying a lot and trying everything, but he’s not fit.”

On a brighter note, Guardiola confirmed Nico is available for Brighton, along with Nathan Ake while Max Alleyne has returned from his loan spell at Championship side Watford.

“[Nico is fine] and it’s good to have Nathan back,” said Pep.

“Max came back from Watford, and we appreciate what they have done for the young lad.

“Omar and Rayan are at AFCON, and we have injuries to John and Oscar Bobb, while Jeremy and Rodri have come back from long injuries.

“That is the situation, [Can we cope?] Of course. With the spirit we have.

“Considering the fatigue, today we’ll see the faces and tomorrow we will take the decision [on who plays].

“Second day they are very tired the third not so bad so tomorrow we will see.”
