Inka Grings steps down as Switzerland national team coach | OneFootball

Inka Grings will depart her role as head coach of the Switzerland national team with immediate effect. The 45-year-old took charge of the Swiss national side last year following her departure from FC Zurich.

The Swiss Football Association (SFA) released a statement across their social media platforms announcing that the two sides had come to a “mutual agreement”.

The decision comes off the back of a string of disappointing results. Switzerland have won only a single game in 2023. The victory came against the Phillippines in their opening World Cup match.

Grings’ departure marks a new chapter for Switzerland

Speaking on her exit, Inka Grings said, “It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to take this step in order to take the pressure off the team and the association in light of current events. It was an exciting time for me with many great experiences as national coach. I really enjoyed supporting the project and saw a lot of potential in the team. It was an honour for me to represent Switzerland internationally.”

“We would like to thank Inka for her work and her great commitment to the SFA. We will take our time to find a successor for the future. The change in coaching position is also an opportunity to provide new sporting impetus. We want to go into the future with our national team in the best possible position so that we can continue to capitalise on the positive mood for women’s football in Switzerland,” said SFA President Dominique Blanc.

The SFA has not announced a successor for Grings as of yet. The team will round off the year with Nations League games against Sweden and Italy.

Switzerland are set to host the 2025 edition of the Women’s Euros.
