Sunderland are overhauling their goalkeeping operation as part of a club-wide modernisation. According to Sunderland Echo, they are recruiting coaches for the under-21s and under-13 to under-18 groups at the Academy of Light.
Neil Cutler is overseeing the restructure, with Jonny Maddison set to assist him. Two extra full-time coaches are being considered, plus part-time roles to sharpen development.
Cutler, 49, previously coached at Wolves and at Aston Villa with Emiliano Martinez. He is central to first-team and academy work.
Maddison, 31, from Chester-le-Street, came through Sunderland’s youth and was in Leicester City’s Premier League title-winning group.
The aim is a complete, modern and joined-up programme, not simply more bodies. Florent Ghisolfi is understood to be driving higher academy standards, with Kyril Louis-Dreyfus keen on a Premier League-level set-up.
Mark Prudhoe, 62, remains a highly regarded youth coach and will receive extra support. The Washington-born mentor, credited with helping Jordan Pickford, is set to oversee younger ages and aid loans and scouting.
Simon Moore supplies leadership around a youthful senior group that includes Robin Roefs and Melker Ellborg, both 23. He is taking coaching badges and feeds back to Cutler, reflected in a one-year extension.
A goalkeeping sports science specialist has joined to tailor preparation, while table tennis aids hand-eye skills and group cohesion.
Pete Jameson, 33, is expected to take a part-time youth role. More hires are planned to add depth to a pathway that produced Anthony Patterson, Matty Young and Jordan Pickford.
