According to Telegraph, Evangelos Marinakis, the hands-on and combative Nottingham Forest owner who has already sacked three managers this season, once asked journalists at a 2022 Vouliagmeni dinner not to wear green, reflecting his Olympiacos allegiance and a superstition about bad luck.

Son of ship owner and politician Miltiadis, he bought Olympiacos in 2010. The club have won 11 league titles and the UEFA Conference League. He denied fixing, bribery and referee intimidation allegations, was cleared in court, and is now suing Aris owner Irini Karipidis, whose lawyers say the claim lacks merit.

He bought Forest in 2017 and, across nine years, delivered promotion, a European return and two cup semi-finals. This campaign’s churn has drawn criticism, including September’s exit of Nuno Espírito Santo, who had guided Forest to seventh last season.

Demanding but loyal, he is known for calls at three in the morning, which allies frame as cultural habit. He railed at a 1-1 draw with Liverpool last season, yet rewarded survival with staff bonuses and statues inscribed 'Never Never Give Up'.

Hands-on in recruitment, he flew to Italy in July to clinch Dan Ndoye for £34m. Last month senior players aired views after a 0-0 with Wolves, and he consulted them before dismissing Sean Dyche.

His clashes with authority have been costly, from a £750,000 FA fine after an April 2024 Everton post to a five-match ban in October. Forest battle relegation despite a £200m spend, remain in Europa League, and Edu Gaspar’s appointment has faltered.
