Once hailed as Rio’s most modern complex, Tigres do Brasil’s Xerém base now contrasts with a team marooned in the state’s fifth tier, seeking backing to rebuild.

According to Globo.com, the 210,000 m² site, unveiled in 2008 and 2009, added five full-size pitches and the 11,000-capacity Estádio Los Larios, though plans for extra fields, a hall, a heliport and a hotel stalled.

The side debuted in the Carioca elite in 2009, struggled early, drew Flamengo at the Maracanã and thrashed Boavista 5-0. Relegation followed in 2010, with four top-flight campaigns in total. In 2017 Felipe began the state championship with Pedrinho as assistant, both left after seven games, the last time Tigres featured in the top tier.

The facility remains largely operational, with pitches, gym, canteen, a goalkeeper area and eight chalets, and the stadium cleared for up to 5,088. Yet neglect is visible, from broken fencing to a torn roof and a stripped pool mosaic.

President Aristóteles Larios says the site suits a bigger club and, without broadcast income, Tigres lean on academy trading. Solidarity and sell-on receipts have come via Deyverson, Wallace Fortuna and Jefté.

Backed first by a local distributor, then a Corinthians tie-up that removed green from crest and kit, the club outsourced operations from 2018 to 2024 to Soccer Stars, whose 20 percent maintenance clause did not show. Larios admits partnerships backfired.

Tigres amassed labour debts, with 44 rulings since 2013, and are currently barred from registering new players. An under-20 state Série C entry this month was halted as registrations could not be processed.

After a two-year licence-led hiatus in 2024, they returned this season in Série C, built frugally and reached the quarter-finals against Campos, losing 3-2 away then drawing 0-0 at Los Larios to miss promotion. The club remains open to serious, legally robust partners as it rebuilds step by step.
