Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte appears destined to leave the club at the end of the season, as he isn’t satisfied with his role in the squad.

The 24-year-old cost the club circa £50 million when he made the move from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024. However, he has yet to justify this considerable figure.

The Uruguayan had a forgettable first season at Old Trafford, and his status at the club has only diminished this term.

Manuel Ugarte is no longer happy at Man Utd

Despite the lack of options in the middle of the park, the Montevideo native continues to struggle for playing time. Michael Carrick has identified Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo as undisputed options in the double pivot.

This is hardly surprising, considering how Ugarte has been causing ‘chaos’ in his appearances, as stats suggest United tend to concede more goals when he’s on the pitch.

And yet, the midfielder feels he deserves better at Man Utd. In his latest update on the Centre Devils, reliable club insider Sully reveals how the Uruguay international feels he’s being ‘undervalued’ at the club.

Therefore, Ugarte is currently ‘unhappy’ with his status at MUFC, which could pave the way for a summer exit.

Why Man United should be open to splitting paths with Ugarte

In recent weeks, Carrick praised Ugarte’s ‘terrific’ attitude, insisting he’s happy with the midfielder’s work. But beyond the manager’s encouragement, one might sense that the ‘unhappiness’ is rather mutual.

After all, Carrick’s honeyed words contradict Ruben Amorim’s blunt statement. The Portuguese tactician once told Ugarte he’s no longer the same player he was at Sporting Club, in a reference to his underwhelming displays at United.

The former PSG man should be able to find a new home, as Galatasaray are reportedly determined to launch a new onslaught after falling short in January.

As for United, they shouldn’t mind parting ways with the Uruguayan, as long as they receive a suitable offer that allows them to avoid registering a capital loss.

However, Ugarte’s departure would leave Mainoo as the only remaining first-team central midfielder, so the upcoming summer revamp could see Jason Wilcox and Co. recruiting three new players for this department.
