Pep Guardiola’s possible exit from Manchester City has been predicted for the end of the ongoing campaign, according to a new report.
The Catalan tactician, who joined the club in 2016 and has since guided them to six Premier League titles and a historic continental treble, is once again the subject of mounting uncertainty as he approaches the final years of his current contract.
The 2025/26 season marks ten full years of Pep Guardiola’s leadership at Manchester City – a period that has completely transformed the club’s identity both domestically and throughout European football.
During that time, City have become synonymous with dominance, technical perfection, and relentless consistency under the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach. Yet, recent comments from Guardiola himself about life beyond football, coupled with new reporting, have fuelled the sense that a natural conclusion to his time in Manchester may be nearing.
Pep Guardiola recently spoke about his future during his 1,000th game in management, admitting that while he still loves the sport, there are “many other things in life” he wants to explore, including travel, family, and even learning French.
Now, according to a new report from The Times’ Paul Hirst, it appears that a departure for Pep Guardiola from Manchester City next summer is a ‘possibility’, although a final decision on such matter has not been made.
It is explained that those with knowledge of the situation admit an exit at the end of the ongoing season could be on the cards, in what is viewed as a logical time to depart with the squad settled, Guardiola having won everything, and 10 years completed.
The report does point out, however, that the same people have predicted Pep Guardiola’s exit from Manchester City in the past, only to see him extend his contract at the Etihad Stadium.
While the idea of Pep Guardiola leaving Manchester City would mark the end of an era, the club will likely be well-prepared for any eventuality having known to be long-term planners, often anticipating future leadership changes years in advance.
Bayern Munich’s recent contract extension for Vincent Kompany, for example, was reportedly motivated by concerns that Manchester City could turn to their former captain as a successor to Pep Guardiola in 2027.
Inside the Etihad Stadium, the prevailing view will no doubt be one of calm with Guardiola expected to make his decision only after careful reflection at the end of the current campaign, and ensuring that key club figures are kept in the loop on his thought process.
If this season does indeed prove to be Pep Guardiola’s last, it would close a chapter defined by dominance and influence across English football. Yet, history has shown that every time talk of an exit surfaces, the Catalan coach finds new motivation to extend his journey.
